Jan Ramstad is a lifelong Minnesota resident and nature photographer based in the Twin Cities. Her photography celebrates the wildlife and extraordinary waterfowl, raptors, and songbirds along the MN river valleys and wetlands. She particularly enjoys photographing migratory birds, some of which travel thousands of miles on their journey. Jan’s camera has traveled with her elsewhere in the world – and a few of those photos are featured on this website –but she truly enjoys exploring close to home above all. She hopes her photos will inspire you to take a closer look at these amazing birds in our sky each day, and that wherever you may live, you too may be captivated by what you discover!
Jan’s work has been featured by the Bell Museum of Natural History, the Minnesota Weather Guide Calendar, and other metro publications. Most recently, Jan’s photograph “Heron on Mississippi River” was on view at the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s “Foot in the Door 5: The Virtual Exhibition”.
Jan lives in the Twin Cities with her husband Pete. They have two adult daughters who also reside in the metro area.
